Firefighters continue to battle Staffordshire Moorlands grass fire

Firefighters are continuing to battle a large grass fire in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

The blaze broke out near the former The Mermaid Inn, between Thorncliffe, Shawfield and Royal Cottage in Ramshaw, on Saturday June 30th.

A huge smoke plume could be seen for miles around the Stoke area.

Several roads were closed as high winds spread the smoke which caused dangerous driving conditions.

Firefighters have been tackling the fire overnight.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Sevice said operations will continue throughout the day and road closures will remain in place.
