A family with a severely disabled daughter say they're furious with their local council for failing to find them a suitable home, despite being at the top of the waiting list.

Leah Clarke, who's seven-years-old, needs round the clock care - but her mum Sue says the privately rented home they're in makes the job more difficult. She says they're struggling to cope and in desperate need of help.

They were told in January this year that they had two months to leave their privately rented house.

Sue and Alan Smart applied to Melton Borough Council for accommodation but despite being told they were top of the waiting list - nothing suitable was found. The one house that did become available went to someone else and they were forced to rent privately again but can't afford the cost on one income alone.

The family's struggle is not unique. A report last month by the Equality and Human Rights Commission revealed 365,000 disabled people lived in homes not suitable for their needs.
