Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has announced his cancer is in remission.

He took to Twitter to thank everyone who has 'supported him over the past year'.

The 32-year-old footballer was diagnosed with acute leukaemia last summer after returning abnormal blood tests during a routine check-up.

But today, he said his cancer was in remission following a 'year of intense chemotherapy'.

Wolves won the Championship title last season and will play in the Premier League next season.

Ikeme, who also plays for the Nigerian national team, has been handed an honorary place in their World Cup squad this year.
