100-year-old woman left with broken neck in street mugging

A 100-year-old woman was left with a broken neck after she was mugged.

She was attacked from behind and knocked to the ground in Normanton, Derbyshire at around 8.30am on Bank Holiday Monday.

Her green handbag was stolen, but it was found half a mile away later the same day with one handle ripped off.

The woman is in hospital being treated for her injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

She cannot remember what the attacker looked like, and the police have appealed for help.
