Aston Villa are through to the Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley after a draw with Middlesbrough at Villa Park.

A 0-0 scoreline was enough, because it means they win the tie 1-0 on aggregate, thanks to Mile Jedinak's goal in the first leg.

In a tie that lacked chances, Aston Villa first went closest to winning the match through Jack Grealish's curling effort.

But there was a huge scare when Adama Traore attempted to lift the ball over Sam Johnstone in the Villa goal, only for him to save with his hand - outside the box.

The 'keeper was shown a yellow card - perhaps very fortunate not to be given a red.

So he was still on the pitch to see Stewart Downing's resulting free kick rattle the bar.

From then on, Villa comfortably held out to make it to the final.

The club’s last trip to Wembley was under different circumstances – the FA Cup Final in 2015 - where they faced Arsenal.

Villa fans will be hoping this year’s trip won’t go the same way, because they were humbled 4-0 that time, barely putting up a fight.

That was under the inexperienced Tim Sherwood. This time they have a man with Wembley wins under his belt.

Steve Bruce’s last visit there was just two years ago, also in the Championship Play-Off Final, where his Hull side beat Sheffield Wednesday.

Now in charge of Aston Villa, he’ll be hoping for a repeat scoreline in his favour, as they take on Fulham, who beat Derby County 2-1 over two legs, in the other semi-final.
