Major delays expected as M1 closes all weekend

Drivers are being warned to avoid the M1 this weekend because of major construction work which will see the carriageway closed between two junctions.

The motorway will be closed from Junction 23A near East Midlands Airport to Junction 24 near Lockington from Friday (11 May) until Sunday (13 May).

Disruption and delays are expected around the area as a bridge is placed above the carriageway .

Traffic will be diverted along the A453 in each direction throughout the closure.

Drivers are being told to avoid the area, give themselves extra time on their journeys and take note of the diversion routes.
