Dummy tickets handed out to badly parked cars blocking emergency vehicles

Leicester's emergency services and city council united in an operation across the city's streets today to highlight how badly parked vehicles can delay them.

They decided to get tough on inconsiderate drivers and went around handing out dummy tickets to vehicles which had been poorly parked.

A fire engine and Biffa refuse lorry went along streets in Spinney Hills, North Evington and Wycliffe wards, highlighting where their access is being blocked by dangerous parking.

Real parking tickets were also issued by council civil enforcement officers where cars were parked illegally.

The event involved Leicester City Council, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, the Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service.
