First electric hackney cab outside of London takes to the streets of Nottingham

The first electric Hackney taxi to operate outside of London has been unveiled in Nottingham.

The hybrid model runs on an electric battery and on petrol.

It can do 83 electric miles and then a petrol-powered generator will kick in to recharge the battery.

The average mileage for a taxi driver in Nottingham is 55 miles a day.

The new electric cabs are part of a drive to improve the city's air quality.
