Former soldier jailed for 28 years for murdering dog walker

A former soldier has been jailed for 28 years for murdering a pensioner while he was out walking his dogs.

Alexander Palmer ambushed 83-year-old Peter Wrighton with a knife in woodland in August 2017.

The attack was so frenzied that police initially thought it had been carried out by an animal.

It took a jury less than an hour to convict Palmer of murder.

Alexander Palmer has been jailed for 28 years for murder.

Mr Wrighton's son, Andrew, who lives in Ross-on-Wye, said the family are still suffering.
