100-year-old recipe found hidden in historic bakery
The owners of an historic bakery were stunned when they found a 100-year-old recipe for gingerbread hidden behind a bench.
Steve and Alison Ball, who run Lawtons Pie Shop in Leek, Staffordshire, discovered the tatty envelope containing a list of ingredients while redecorating their Derby Street premises.
Following the find, the couple and their baking team decided to recreate the sweet treat.
Having received positive feedback, Alison and Steve are hoping the cake-like biscuits will soon become synonymous with Leek in much the same way as Bakewell pudding.
