Driver arrested following fatal M42 crash

A van driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after a fatal crash which killed two women.

The 37-year-old man, from Birmingham, has since been released under investigation.

Two women were killed and three people were injured following the crash on the M42 in the early hours of the morning.

The women - one in her 50s and another in her 60s - were rear passengers in a a brown Vauxhall Meriva.

The driver, a man in his 70s, and a man in his 30s who was travelling in the front, were treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the van was taken to Heartlands hospital with suspected back pain and hand injury.
