Birmingham prisoner in 'I'm a celebrity' cockroach video

A shocking video has emerged showing the moment a prisoner inside HMP Birmingham ate a cockroach as part of a homemade 'I'm a celebrity' challenge.

The video was reportedly posted to the man's Instagram account - despite a ban on mobile phones inside the prison.

After he eats the bug, the prisoner says: “I’m A Celebrity, get me out of HMP Birmingham.”

The jail has been cracking down on prisoners sneaking in mobile phones and revealed that the inmate in the video is no longer at HMP Birmingham.

Mobile phones were seized more than 100 times at a Birmingham prison last year, the highest number since records began.

There were 130 incidents in Birmingham prison where mobile phones were discovered in 2016.

This was up from 123 in 2015, and was the highest number in a single year since records began being kept in April 2013
