A teenage Formula 4 racing driver who was severely injured in a crash earlier this year has been given a Pride of Sport Award.

Billy Monger was involved in a crash at Donnington Park in Leicestershire during a Formula 4 race which resulted in the 18-year-old being rushed to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Unfortunately, Billy had to have both of his lower legs amputated as a result of the high speed crash but the youngster's bravery captured the heart of the nation.

The Motorsport community rallied behind Billy with F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and former world champion, Jenson Button, supporting the teenager. A crowdfunding page was set up and has raised over £840,000 so far to help him return to a full and active life.

Despite his injuries, Billy said he wants to race again.

Claire Lomas, who is from Leicestershire, is also set to be honoured with an award.

Claire is paralysed from the chest down and rose to fame in 2016 after completing the Great North Run over five days. This year she took her achievement even further, finishing the 16.09km Great South Run in a single day.

Her achievements have raised more than £575,000 for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation.

The Pride of Sport Awards judges described Claire as "a force of nature".
