Exclusive footage shows chairs being thrown by crowds at boxing match
A 19-year-old man has died after fighting broke out following a boxing match in Walsall. Fans started to throw chairs and tables after the clash at Walsall Town Hall between Luke Paddock and Myron Mills.
Police say the teenager suffered a neck injury and they are looking for potential weapons in what is now a murder investigation.
The fight, promoted by BCB Promotions was billed at "The World Awaits" and the prize was the IBF Youth Lightweight title. Luke Paddock from Walsall lost the fight to Myron Mills from Derby after a split decision.
Fighting broke out between spectators who were seen inside the Town Hall throwing chairs and tables. During a post match interview with the winner which was being streamed online, Myron Mills apologises for the trouble:
"I'd just like to apologise on behalf of whatever happened over there, I'm not too sure what happened but I'm sure it wasn't worth it whatever it was. I don't know why they feel like that to do that and I don't think they've stopped yet."
Myron Mills was a last minute replacement for the fight after a previous competitor due to take on Luke Paddock pulled out.
Detective Inspector Ian Wilkins from West Midlands Police said:
Cordons remain in place with roads closed off as the searches continue.
A further boxing event planned for this evening has been cancelled by the promoters.
Detectives are continuing to trawl through CCTV from the surrounding area and several witnesses have already been spoken to.
