Royal Leamington Spa has been named the happiest place to live in the UK by a survey, which asked over 17,000 people.

The happiness is based on factors such as local services, the friendliness of locals, costs, community spirit and safety.

The Warwickshire town was given the status by Rightmove's Happy at Home 2017 Index and scored highly for friendly neighbours and for a strong sense of belonging.

Shrewsbury was ranked as the second happiest place to live in the West Midlands with a national ranking of 17th. Whilst Solihull, the West Midlands' third happiest place to live, was placed 19th nationally.

In the East Midlands, Newark was regarded as the happiest place to live and had a national ranking of 70th place.
