Thousands of knitted poppies made for Remembrance Day

Thousands of knitted poppies are going on display in Mansfield after the community responded to a call to help make them.

Mansfield District Council asked local people to help make them and now, almost 5,000 have been made.

They will go on display as part of this year's Remembrance Parade route to commemorate those killed in the service of their country.

It will also raise money for the Royal British Legion as the public can opt to sponsor a poppy and pay a donation.

The public can visit events on Mansfield Market Place in October and attach a poppy for a donation of £1 to raise funds to support the Armed Forces community.

Dates and times when the public can get involved are:

  • 11 October: International Mini Market, 11am to 3pm

  • 22 October: Car Show, 11am to 3pm

  • 24 - Saturday 28 October: half-term ghost hunt, 11am to 2pm

The poppies will be attached to netting and messages of condolence can be added to a commemoration board as a way of marking respect for those who have fought for our country.
