Plate sells for just under a quarter of a million pounds
A Chinese plate that until recently was hanging on a grandmother's wall has sold at auction in Derbyshire for £230,000.
Hanson's Auctioneers in Etwall, Derbyshire, had to open extra phone lines because of the interest from bidders in China.
Auctioneers told us they expected it to sell for around £150,000 but It eventually sold for the staggering sum of just under a quarter of a million pounds.
The auctioneers behind the sale would not reveal much but could tell us that it was bought by an 'important oversees collector'.
The plate was sold by three siblings from South Derbyshire who inherited it from their granny two years ago and tucked it away in a kitchen cupboard.The family members wished to remain anonymous but one said:
