Hindus celebrate Navratri event for Goddess Durga

Hindus from Leicester and elsewhere will be gathering every night from the 21 September till the 29th, to celebrate Navratri, the “nine nights” dedicated to the Goddess Durga.

The event is one of the most awaited and sacred festivals in the Hindu calendar, Navratri - the nine-day festival of dance that celebrates the nine manifestations of the Hindu Goddess Durga.

Hindu's began the celebrations on September 21 2017 and will end on they will come to an end this Friday.

Temples, community centre's and outdoor parks around the world mark the festival as devotee's flock together in colourful traditional dress to mark the festival of dance.

Those taking part dance to live devotional music while clapping their hands as they rotate around a shrine devoted to the Goddess.

Celebrations start early in the evening and go on until the early hours of the morning.
