A dentist in Leicestershire has shared his tips with ITV News Central on the best way to brush your child’s teeth.
Dr Jason Wong says that oral health is an integral part of overall health, yet 1 in 8 three year olds and 1 in 4 five year olds have visible dental decay.
He says the most important factor for preventing tooth decay is what happens at home.
Here are his top tips for brushing your child’s teeth and preventing tooth decay:
Diet is the most important factor for prevention of tooth decay in particular sugar and acid
Water is the best drink
Brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
Spit don't rinse
Supervise the brushing till age 7
Take your baby to the Dentist as soon as their first teeth are through and certainly before their first birthday both for a check up and preventive advice
