East Midlands Trains workers threaten to strike
East Midlands Trains workers are threatening to strike as staff say they were due a pay rise in April, which they still have not received.
The Rail Union RMT say the company have offered a 2.7% rise if additional targets are met, something which is seen as "totally inadequate" by the union and "below the industry average agreed by similar train companies."
The union report that the highest paid East Midlands Train director over the last five years has seen their own salary rise by 41.5% to £290,000. Rail Union RMT state that staff wages have increased by 15.1% over the same period and staff are now threatened with a further hit this year.
RMT General Secretary, Mick Cash, said:
RMT say pay talks are set to be resumed with East Midlands Trains on 19 September.
The union also state that the they have "begun preparations for a ballot for both strike and action short of a stroke" if they are forced to dispute with the company after the talks on 19 September.
