Decision over future of Glenfield Children's Heart Unit could be made by end of month

It's been revealed that a decision over the future of Glenfield Children's Heart Unit in Leicester could be made by the end of this month.

The hospital trust in charge of the unit - which treats many patients from across the East Midlands - says it's hopeful a decision could be revealed at an NHS England board meeting at the end of September.

Health bosses though have indicated it will only come once seven thousand responses to the public consultation have been reviewed.

NHS England announced plans to stop surgery at Glenfield last summer, as they say surgeons aren't doing enough operations to meet safety standards.
