Confirmed: police have shot a man in a Derbyshire street
Derbyshire Police say they received reports of a man believed to be in possession of a gun in Heanor in the early hours of this morning.
Armed officers were sent to the area where they found the man, who was subsequently shot during a confrontation with police.
The man, who is in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Derbyshire Police have cordoned off Stainsby Avenue in Heanor this morning.
The IPCC - the police watchdog - are there along with forensic officers who are examining an area where medical equipment appears to have been left.
Derbyshire Police referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
