First birthday celebrations for Shakespeare landmark
Curation teams at the newly-interpreted site of William Shakespeare's family home in Stratford-Upon-Avon are celebrating the location's first birthday today. A party is being held to mark the first anniversary of New Place with live performances on-site.
The area opened last summer after a two-year, six-million pound project to represent and recreate the site of Shakespeare's family home. It followed celebrations and a street parade to mark the 400th anniversary of the playwright's death last April. Organisers say nearly 150,000 visitors from across the world have visited New Place in the last year.
