"Just clean it up": Anger builds over Birmingham's bin collections
Residents in Birmingham have been getting in touch about the council bin collections which were due to take place last week.
ITV News Central was told by Birmingham City Council on Friday (11 August) that all the rubbish which had built up over recent weeks would be collected by Sunday (13 August).
However, several people have been getting in touch on social media to say their bins have still not been collected.
The council released a statement today (14 August) to say that they had managed to collect more than 90% of the city's rubbish last week. However, they could not collect all off the rubbish "as a result of further strike action".
On Twitter, residents posted the following comments:
On Facebook, hundreds of you have been in touch to say how angry you are about the strikes, and how many of you are still waiting for your bins to be collected.
Ruhi Tolley said her rubbish was collected three weeks ago, and took a photo of a rat to show the result of the rubbish piling up:
Some of you have also said your bins have been collected, with refuse workers using masks and gloves to pick up the waste.
Councillor Lisa Trickett Cabinet Member for Clean Streets, Recycling and Environment, said in a statement today:
The authority is aiming to collect waste from wards every three weeks as the ongoing row between the dustmen and council continues.
