Street called Isis Way won't be changed, council decides

A road called Isis Way will not be renamed after those living there failed to respond to a questionnaire on whether or not it should be renamed.

Some residents living on the controversially named street in Derbyshire called for it to be changed, saying it creates difficulties with websites such as Paypal because the payment system sees Isis as a "hot word", meaning the address is rejected. They also claim that they receive "funny looks and nervous laughs" when they gave out the name of their street.

The sign was vandalised with black paint earlier this year which left the sign reading just "Way".

South Derbyshire District Council sent a questionnaire to the 43 residents living in the street in Hilton as part of an informal public consultation.

However, the Hilton Parish Council have said that the name will remain as Isis Way after receiving replies from only around seven residents.

One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, created a Facebook page to discuss the idea of changing the street name after moving to the Street earlier this year. She said the common opinion was that Isis Way should keep its name.

She added:

The word Isis was originally the name of an ancient Egyptian goddess.
