World Athletics Championships: Midlands Stars

With the World Athletics Championships starting tonight, here are the athletes from the Midlands to look out for.

Andrew Pozzi

Andrew Pozzi is a great medal hope for Team GB in the 110m Hurdles. The athlete from Stratford-upon-Avon set his own personal best last month of 13.14 seconds. After being ruled the Olympics through injury five years ago, and missing out on the final in Rio, he is poised to make an impact in London.

Elliot Giles

The British Champion had a disappointing time in Rio, failing to get out of the heats but Elliot Giles is getting better in every race. He won his first global medal this year, winning bronze in the indoor European Championships.

Jazmin Sawyers

  • Stoke-on-Trent

Jazmin Sawyers had made fame appearing on ITV's the Voice this year. But the Stoke athlete is still focused on her athletics, who finished eighth in the Olympic Games in Rio last year.

Matthew Hudson-Smith
