Dan Greaves is one of two captains that will lead Great Britain at the Para World Championships. The athlete from Anstey is very experienced and won gold at the Paralympics in 2004. He is a former world record holder and a three-time world champion. His last world title was six years ago and he will be hoping to add a fourth in London.

After only taking up athletics at the age of 15, following Great Britain's successful 2012 Paralympic Games in London, it's quite appropriate that Sophie will arrive in London to compete as the world record holder, a double world champion and the Paralympic Champion in the 100m. In her specialised event, Sophie is unbeatable and now she will aim to improve on her two world silver medals in the 200m.

Ben Rowlings

  • Date of Birth: 02/05/1996

  • Hometown: Shrewsbury

  • Event: T34 400m & 800m

Ben Rowlings broke the world record in June in the 5000m. Unfortunately this event is not sanctioned in the world championships in this classification. However, the Shrewsbury athlete will be determined to deliver at his home championships in a shorter distance.

Kare Adenegan

  • Date of Birth: 29/12/2000

  • Hometown: Coventry

  • Event: T34 100m, 400m & 800m

Kare won two bronze medals at the world championships two years ago when she was only 14. Now she is back at the world championships having won three medals at the Paralympics in Rio last year. Unfortunately for her, she's in the same event as fellow GB athlete Hannah Cockroft who is almost unbeatable in all of the T34 events she competes in.

Richard Whitehead

  • Date of Birth: 19/07/1976

  • Hometown: Nottingham

  • Event: T42 100m & 200m

Richard Whitehead is certainly one of Great Britain's better known athletes competing at the World Championships. After securing his second Paralympic gold medal in Rio last year, Richard is aiming for a fourth world title in the T42 200m. Last month he broke his own world record, to prove he is in the best form in his life at 40 years old.
