Treasures of India on display in new exhibition
Some of the finest South Asian treasures from the Royal Collection are on display at a new exhibition in Leicester.
Seventy four works of art are being showcased at the New Walk Museum & Art Gallery today.
The pieces, which include a gold durbar set and an enamelled gold and jewel encrusted crown, were gifts presented to the Prince of Wales as he toured across India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal as parts of efforts to strengthen ties between the nations.
The treasures come to the city 100 years after calls were made for the gifts to be on show in Leicester.
The Splendours of the Subcontinent exhibition coincides with the 70th anniversary of the independence of India and Pakistan.
