East Midlands Ambulance Service is introducing a new app which alerts qualified lifesavers to someone having a heart attack close by.

They are the first ambulance service to launch this app outside of London.

The technology works by gathering a large pool of volunteers qualified in First Aid who can be contacted in the event of an emergency and might be able to get there before the ambulance.

EMAS believe it will save lives as every minute CPR isn't performed the chance of survival falls by 10%.

Initially, the volunteers will be professionals like off-duty paramedics, hospital staff or community first responders, but eventually EMAS hopes to extend the app to any member of the public trained in administering CPR.
