Nick Timothy resigns as aide to Theresa May

Nick Timothy, one of Theresa May's two key aides has resigned after saying he accepts his share of responsibility for the Conservative's performance in the election.

The Birmingham born advisor stepped down alongside his colleague Fiona Hill after facing furious criticism from party MPs and officials.

Mr Timothy wrote: "I take responsibility for my part in this election campaign" on the Conservative Home website.

He also went on to say that he rejected "bizarre media reports" that he had personally overseen a bungled social care policy in the manifesto.
