Jail time for man who knocked boy off bike and 'left him for dead'

A driver who killed a 14-year-old boy in a hit-and-run in Nottinghamshire has been jailed for almost three and a half years.

Jack Archer was killed when the bike he was riding collided with a car in Chapel Lane in Bingham on the 25th of July last year.

29-year-old Steven Mill was attempting to overtake Jack when he hit the boy. Mills fled the scene without checking if Jack was OK or calling emergency services. He fled the scene and set fire to his car destroying all the evidence, before handing himself into Carlton Police Station a few hours later.

Jack had been fatally injured and died at the scene.

Mills was sentenced to 22 months for causing death by careless driving and 18 months for an act intending to pervert the course of justice which are to be served consecutively. He was also banned from driving for four years and six months.
