Minute's silence to be held at Birmingham Pride
There will be a minute's silence at Birmingham Pride today (27 May) in honour of those who lost their lives in the Manchester concert bombing.
Lawrence Barton, Festival Director, said:
The minute's silence will be held at 12pm in Victoria Square.
Birmingham Pride said they are ensuring the safety of everyone at the festival and have been working with West Midlands Police over the past six months to ensure policing and security for the event.
Assistant Chief Constable Alex Murray of West Midlands Police commented:
This year also marks 50 years since the decriminilisation of homosexuality in the United Kingdom.
As a result, organisers of Birmingham Pride have said that this year's festival will adopt the theme Love & Pride, in recognition of the anniversary.
