Armed police were seen by commuters outside the Bullring in Birmingham today (24 May) after Britain’s terror threat level was raised to the maximum.
Extra officers were on duty following the Prime Minister’s decision to increase the UK’s security arrangements from severe to critical – meaning another attack may be imminent.
West Midlands Police said it had increased both armed and unarmed patrol numbers following the horrific Manchester terror attack in which 22 people died.
But the force said there were no immediate plans to put soldiers on the streets of Birmingham and other key locations.
