'Patients suffered psychologically' from unnecessary breast surgery performed by Ian Paterson

A former breast surgeon has today (28 April) been found guilty of carrying out unnecessary breast surgery on a number of patients in his care.

Ian Paterson sobbed as the verdicts were read out by jury at Nottingham Crown Court.

The 59-year-old was convicted on 17 counts of wounding with intent and three counts of unlawful wounding.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Payne said:

The judge has granted Paterson conditional bail and he will be sentenced at the end of May.
