Woman arrested in Birmingham on suspicion of terror offences

Officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit have arrested a woman in Birmingham on suspicion of terrorism offences.

The woman, aged 21, was questioned on suspicion of preparing for terrorism acts.

Officers say the arrest was pre-planned and there was no risk to the public’s safety.

Today’s move is part of an on-going investigation by WMCTU in which two people are currently remanded into custody after being charged with terrorism-related offences.

Ummariyat Mirza (21) and Zainub Mirsa (23) appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court on Thursday 6 April charged with a number of offences and were remanded to next appear before the Old Bailey on Friday 28 April.
