General Election East Midlands: Where are we now?

On May 7th 2015, people in the East Midlands went to the polls in the General Election.

46 seats were up for grabs across Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire · Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire.

And this is what happened.

The Conservatives won 32 seats, which was 70% of the seats in the region, increasing their share of the vote by 2.3% points compared with 2010.

It was the second highest increase in their share of vote in any region in the UK.

They won one more seat in the region compared with 2010 - this was Derby North, which became the most marginal constituency in England.

  • It was the Green Party's lowest share of the vote in any English region.

  • The safest seat in the region was South Northamptonshire, with the Conservatives on a 43.4% majority.

  • The most marginal was Derby North which the Conservatives took on just 0.1%.

  • The highest turnout was in Rushcliffe (75.3%), and the lowest in Nottingham North (53.4%)

  • Turnout overall was 66.5%.

There was a by-election in Sleaford and North Hykeham in December 2016 - it was held by the Conservatives.
