Thieves using a JCB digger have targeted a cash machine at the Co-op supermarket on Main Road in the Great Glen area of Leicestershire.

Officers were called at about 3.05am this morning after an alarm was activated at the store.

Witnesses reported seeing four men at the scene where a JCB was used to remove the cash machine which was loaded on to the back of a truck.

The cash machine was later found in the same street and a truck, believed to have been used in the incident, was recovered in a street nearby.

It is believed that no cash was taken from the machine.

A cordon remains in place while initial enquiries are conducted at the scene and officers say they are now keen to hear from anyone who might have information about what happened.
