Prison instructor jailed for relationship with inmate

A 24-year-old prison instructor who kissed and exchanged love letters with aconvicted murderer has been given a six month sentence.

Sian Doherty of Great Oakley, Northamptonshire was convicted of misconduct in a public office.

Leicester Crown Court heard killer Michael Dobson wrote letters containing"crude references" to Doherty as she tried to keep the relationship hiddenfrom her bosses at HMP Gartree, near Market Harborough.

Doherty began working as an instructor for the National Offender Management Service at the Category B prison in September 2015.

Dobson wrote messages including "You make me feel alive baby". On the phone, Doherty referred to him as "darling" after creating a false name and buying a new phone in a bid to avoid detection.
