Herefordshire farmers asked to help prevent bird flu
Poultry farmers and game keepers in Herefordshire are being advised to follow government advice to prevent the spread of bird flu.
The County Council has asked owners to be viligilant and to seek advice from a vet if they have any concerns.
Since 28th February, the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone has been targeted towards the highest risk areas, the council say as Herefordshire is not considered to be a high risk area keepers now have the option to allow their poultry managed access to fenced outdoor areas.
Councillor David Harlow, cabinet member for economy and corporate services, said:
Poultry and captive bird keepers in the county with more than 500 birds are asked to comply with the additional biosecurity measures and consult the DEFRA guidance.
