People driving into Leicester today are being warned to expect traffic delays and parking disruption due to a protest march in the city centre.

Protestors opposed to the closure of the specialist children's heart unit at Glenfield Hospital are planning to march on a route from Victoria Park to the city centre.

The procession will set off from the junction of Granville Road and Regent Road at about noon and will head down London Road, Waterloo Way, along Granby Street, Gallowtree Gate, East Gates and High Street, before arriving at Jubilee Square for a rally at around 12.45pm.

Between noon and 1pm, the rolling road closures will affect:

  • Granville Road

  • London Road (city-bound) between Granville Road and Waterloo Way

  • Waterloo Way between St Georges Way and Regent Road

  • Granby Street

  • Gallowtree Gate

  • East Gates

  • High Street

  • St Nicholas Place

Parking will also be suspended on London Road (in-bound) while the protest march takes place. City Highways Director Martin Fletcher, said:
