Early valentines romance for Midlands Marmosets
It was love at first sight when Pygmy Marmosets, Gizmo and Greta, arrived at one local wildlife sanctuary in a Midlands theme park, earlier this year, and keepers say they’ve been inseparable ever since.
The duo first met and became attached three weeks ago and now, after witnessing the love story unravel the zoo at Drayton Manor theme park is hoping for some babies may be the next stage for these two, who could help boost their conservational programme.
Pygmy Marmosets are the smallest known monkey species and weigh just 119g on average. The babies can balance on a wine glass and originate from the South American rainforest.
They are not thought to be a particularly threatened species in the wild, but their natural habitat most definitely is, with one and a half acres being destroyed every second.Chris Mitchell, Zoo Manager at Drayton Manor Park, said:
Visitors can see Gizmo and Greta for themselves during February half term from Saturday 18th – Sunday 26th February.
