Residents warned to keep doors and windows closed near fire
Six fire crews are tackling a major fire at a former recycling plant in Stoke-on-Trent which broke out earlier this morning.
The blaze broke out at the site on Redhills Road in Milton, with crews dispatched from Hanley, Sandyford, Newcastle and Leek.
Police are warning people to keep their doors and windows shut if they live nearby, as the fire is consuming recycled plastics.
Nearby resident Jon Booth told ITV News Central: "The smoke drifted high and towards Sneyd Green and it dropped ash and debris in our garden. I have heard some rather loud explosions from the fire too."
Police officers have put a cordon around the area of the fire for safety reasons. It's believed nobody was on site at the time the fire broke out earlier this morning.
Redhills Road and the canal towpath are closed so residents are urged to avoid them.
