Lord Janner's family to apply to take part in child sex abuse inquiry

The family of former Leicester West MP Lord Janner will be at Westminster today after reversing their decision to take part in an independent inquiry into child abuse.

Lord Janner had been accused of sexual offences before his death in 2015, but his family has always protested his innocence.

It's thought that they will argue that it is wrong for Lord Janner to be included in the inquiry when he is unable to defend himself.

In a meeting with lawyers from the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse, Lord Janner's family is expected to apply for "core participant status".

This would allow them to address the panel and counter claims made by alleged victims.
