Four inmates charged with prison mutiny over Birmingham jail riot

Four prison inmates have been charged in connection with last month's major outbreak of disorder at Birmingham's Winson Green jail.

Carl Brookes, 32, Ross Wilkinson, 23, Luke Mansell, also 23, and 22-year-old Nathan Weston are accused of taking part in a prison mutiny intending to overthrow lawful authority at HMP Birmingham.

Brookes, who is now being held at HMP Hewell in Worcestershire, is further accused of taking a photograph without authorisation during disturbances at Winson Green on December 16.

All four men are due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Two other men charged with prison mutiny were remanded in custody by magistrates earlier this month and are due back in court on February 3.

The offence of prison mutiny carries a maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment.
