A shoplifter has taken a live snake from a pet shop and walked out with it in his pocket.

Staff at Chico’s Pet Supplies in Brownhills fear the corn snake called Sid will die unless returned.

He was only weeks old and was shedding skin, which makes him more vulnerable during cold weather.

They say the will be handing the CCTV to police on Monday morning but would rather get the snake back so he can be fed. They hope someone will do the right thing by returning him.

Corn snakes, native to North America, have been popular in the pet trade for years and can grow to five feet long.

They are non-venomous and docile, but will bite if tormented.
