Dog reunited with owners after straying 50 miles from home
A dog that strayed 50 miles away from his home has been reunited with his owner after six weeks thanks to his microchip.
Casey disappeared from Spilsby in Lincolnshire while being looked after by a friend of the owner, who was moving home.
Despite numerous sightings, nobody was able to catch him due to his nervous disposition. Attempts to track him down through Facebook also failed.
The border collie was eventually found in a supermarket car park in Newark.
Here is some key advice for micro-chipping your dog:
It is compulsory for all dogs over the age of eight weeks in England to be fitted with microchips.
The only exemption from this requirement is where a vet certifies in writing that a dog is unfit to be microchipped.
Many vets offer free microchipping as do other welfare organisations.
Owners of dogs without microchips may face criminal prosecution and a £500 fine if they do not stay within the law.
