Twycross Zoo temporarily closes walk-through aviaries

Twycross Zoo has revealed it has temporarily closed its walk-through aviaries due to the outbreak of bird flu in Europe.

Earlier this month, the Government Chief Veterinary Officer introduced enhanced biosecurity requirements for poultry and captive birds, helping protect them from a strain of avian flu circulating in mainland Europe.

The zone covers England and will remain in place until 6 January 2017. On 16 December, the first case of Avian Influenza (H5N8) in the UK was confirmed.
