Boxing legend Frank Bruno has urged fans not to buy tickets to an advertised meet-and-greet with him in Birmingham.

The ex-world heavyweight champion said he "knew nothing" of the "Evening with" event at The H Suite in Icknield Port Road, Edgbaston.

He tweeted: “Urgent, if you’ve been offered tickets for an event on February 3 with me at H Suite, my office and I know nothing about it.”

Responding to a question about why an advert for the event was still up online, Bruno added: “The venue, I understand, has asked them to take it down”.

And he later tweeted: “I know nothing about this event.”

The H Suite said it held a provisional booking for the event. But an employee said no money had yet been paid to confirm dates and it was struggling to contact the person or company that had made the booking.

The worker said: “We are holding it on the basis that if, in 48 hours, he hasn’t got back to us, we are dropping it.

“It has come as a surprise to us. We have tried to contact Bruno’s people. They have also said they don’t know any more about it.” The H Suite would not name the person or firm which made the approach.

Bruno’s agent Dave Davies said: “We don’t know anything about the event.

“We asked the venue to tell us who booked it. They are contacting the person, asking them to call back.”

Ticketbud, who are based in the US, released this statement.

Bruno, one of the most popular figures in the history of British boxing, became world heavyweight champ when he beat Oliver McCall in September 1995. He retired the following year, aged 34.
