Birmingham pub has licence suspended following football trouble
A pub in Birmingham has had its licence suspended after police officers were pelted with glasses and bottles after the Blues v Villa derby match last month on October 30th.
West Midlands Police drafted in more than 75 officers and police dogs to try to control a large group of Birmingham City fans who were drinking outside the White Tower pub, waiting for passing Villa supporters.
The force said that Bluenose “risk supporters” knew the pub was on the route officers were using to escort Aston Villa fans back to Duddeston train station.Police were forced to use batons to move the fans away from the Nechells pub to prevent violent clashes between the rival supporters.
In a written decision to suspend the licence, pending a full hearing, the council’s licensing sub committee said:
Officers arrested 14 people on suspicion of a range of offences including violent disorder, pitch encroachment and affray.
The full hearing will be held next week and councillors have the option of adding or modifying conditions. It could even revoking the licence.
