Great-grandfather stands up to armed carjackers
A great-grandfather has recounted how he stood up to armed carjackers who threatened him in Acocks Green in Birmingham.
75-year-old Anthony Mathers was driving down Roberts Road on October 31 when his path was blocked by a man under the railway bridge.
On stopping the car, another man put an imitation gun up to the windscreen, prompting Mr Mathers to get out of the car, at which point the armed man ran off.
Mr Mathers was pulled from the car and a third man got into the vehicle. After being prevented from trying to get back into his car, he chased it when he saw it stalling in Oxford Road.
He was pushed to the ground as he confronted the gang, but they fled when they failed to get the car started again. Neighbours then assisted Mr Mathers.
Officers are continuing to appeal for information on the suspect after a 17-year-old was arrested and released without charge.
